Hackney & Morgan

Although the Barksdale Brothers appeared in the January, 1905, published records of the Lumbermen's Credit Association, no mention was given their status as manufacturers. They were apparently producing lumber shortly thereafter, for a 1906 railroad report showed the Barksdale sawmill as having a 35,000 board feet per day capacity. Hackney & Morgan bought the Barksdale Brothers sawmill site on February 16, 1906 on a mortgage. The equipment included a boiler, an engine, Fisher & Davis #4 Sawmill and carriage, an edger, a trimmer, a planer, a blower, and two 60-inch saws.
Barksdale Brothers owned a sawmill firm earlier in Panola County known as Barksdale Bros & Barnes. The Barksdale Brothers disappeared altogether, however, from the Lumbermen's Credit Association's published records of January 1907.
