Louisiana-Pacific Corp.
The Keynotes Hardwood Company began erecting a new hardwood mill in 1950. The incorporators were J. D. Brumley and Layton L. Coats, both of Silsbee, and S. O. Williams, of Keynotes. The capital stock was $15,000. After the facility was totally destroyed by fire in 1955, it was rebuilt. A second fire destroyed it in 1957, and again it was rebuilt. The sawmill produced 5,275,018 board feet of lumber during 1960. The company employed regularly between forty and forty-five workers. In 1969, Georgia-Pacific Lumber Company bought the sawmill complex and later turned it over to Louisiana-Pacific. In 1973, 100 employees working with pine produced twenty million board feet. In 1993, thirty employees, working with oak and ash, produced fifteen million board feet of select and common boards. Equipment included a debarker, single band/carriage headrig, one cant gang/edger,one board edger, and a trimmer.
