J. W. Cooper and and W. C. Hodges

According to Gregg County records, J. W. Moody, Jr. had a steam sawmill two miles northeast of Gladewater known as the "Swamp Rabbit." The county sheriff sold it to J. W. Cooper and and W. C. Hodges for $26.00 in 1877. Cooper had been doing lumber work in the area since 1875. Jno Cooper provided lumber and labor for Edward Dewey's boarding house and hotel on the tracks of the Texas & Pacific depot at Gladewater.
This may have become the Cooper Hardin & Co mill listed at Gladewater in an 1880 railroad directory.
