Gilmer Lumber Company

A deed of trust filed at Upshur County courthouse in 1908 noted that Gilmer Lumber Company had come under the management of R. W. Taylor of Harrison County. Taylor had received this mill and the Eastwood sawmill plant near Harleton that year in order to rid Eastwood of crippling debt. The planing mill was located just to the north and west of the Marshall & East Texas Railway depot in Gilmer. Equipment included an E. B. Hayes trimmer, a Fay an Eagan moulder, one Center Crank Skinner steam engine, a Hall & Brown edger, a Hoyt planer, a resaw, one blower, a W. K. Henderson boiler (12-foot by 42-inch), three lumber trucks, and all the lumber on the yard.
