R. A. Martin
The R. A. Martin Lumber Company probably began in the late 1920s as the Mullinax & Martin sawmill firm located a few miles south of Winnsboro. It had a steam-powered mill. "This Everlasting Sand Bed": Cultural Resources Investigations at the Texas Big Sandy Project, Wood and Upshur Counties, Texas, records that it lasted until the 1930s. The Lumbermen's Credit Rating Book, October 1934, notes that the R. A. Martin Lumber Company was sawmilling at Winnsboro. No earlier record of the R. A. Martin Company has yet been discovered.
