Brown Brothers Lumber Company

According to Doris M. Mills, a Brown family descendent, the Brown Brothers operated a millwork plant in Houston during the 1930s. The Great Depression ended the business there, and the family moved to Sheldon where they operated a sawmill until 1945.
The Sheldon sawmill, located about halfway between Houston and Liberty, had a steam-powered circular sawmill, a planer, and a steam-powered kiln. Ms Mills remembered that the company did its own logging with mules and trucks. Shipping of product was by truck. The mill employed ten to fifteen men.
