Dave Meigs

Dave Meigs operated a combination mill at the old Boren site from approximately 1897 to some time after 1905. The Meigs mill could cut 4,000 feet and gin ten bales daily in 1905. A Jasper County Historical Commission history records that David Meigs water-powered mill in 1900 manufactured lumber, cornmeal, and ginned cotton. Its original water-wheel of the ‘tub' type was replaced by a turbine. The mill produced about 250,000 butt feet for 1904 and seventy-six bales of cotton. Meigs manufactured coffins for the community.
