Western Naval Stores Co.

Webb in the Handbook of Texas recorded that the Western Naval Stores Co. operated a turpentine camp at Turpentine from 1907 to 1918. This was the headquarters for an operation that ran other camps in Sabine, San Augustine, Newton, and Jasper counties. Southern Lumberman note in April 1908 that L. W. Autrey was the manager of the camp. A nearby camp was at Morris Ferry. All the camps and installations of Western Naval Stores were closed between 1918 and 1920.
