Orange, Jasper, and Henderson Railroad Company
Stephen W. Blount, Dr. Lewis V. Greer, and Matthew Cartwright and seven other investors chartered in October 1866 the Orange, Jasper, and Henderson railroad company. To keep the charter valid, twenty-five miles of track would have to be laid by 1870. Nearly none of the five million dollars for stock was raised nor was the rail laid. A Sabine County investor suggested that a tram road and a sawmill be constructed so that the money could be raised for the trunk line. Nothing was accomplished, and the charter lapsed.
