C. C. Houston and W. G. Liggett operated a sawmill about eight miles east of Conroe at Magnolia or Tharp’s Switch after the turn of the century. In 1907, bought out O. S. Plummer and L. Matthews. Some of the equipment that passed to Plummer and Matthews included 24 oxen, 11 mules, 2 log wagons, 2 1/4 miles of tram road, the commissary and its stock, and a lease of rails from the IGNRR.
This tram road probably did not belong earlier to H. J. Montgomery because of the lack of an engine. The tram road was still being powered by animals.
