Historicial Development: A sawmill firm known as J. E. Phillips and Son mortgaged with Palmetto Lumber Company for a “Taylor fire box boiler on wheels”, on January 15, 1923. J. E. Phillips registered in the San Jacinto Chattel Mortgage Register, on June 7, 1923, a “saw mill complete with all machinery belting etc. and it is agreed that if this mill taken over by the bank I give them the right to operate the mill on the same ground and premises and under the same contract I now have.” Other property included a truck, cattle, and horses. The mortgage was for $350 with the 1st National Bank of Cleveland. R. H. Jones took a vendor's lien on the sawmill on June 25, 1923. In 1926, J. E. Phillips mortgaged his steam-powered portable sawmill and planer to the Farmers Bank of Cleveland. John Phillips mortgaged a truck, sawmill, and a trailer in 1928.
